Snowmobile or ATV Pre-Ride Checklist:

Are you planning to travel by ATV or snowmobile? To be prepared, it is recommended to take the following precautions.

  • inspect your snowmobile or ATV
  • monitor the weather
  • make a trip plan and always tell someone*

*A trip plan must include name of all riders and any passengers, destination, and timeline

  • Wear personal protective equipment:
  • full face helmet with goggles
  • warm waterproof boots
  • proper winter clothing – mitts, snow or wind pants, warm parkas, animal skins or furs

Carry safety equipment, including:

  • waterproof matches
  • small first aid kit
  • fuel and oil
  • tow sling or rope
  • folding saw or pana
  • flashlight and spare batteries
  • water and food
  • emergency blanket
  • GPS, map, compass, tracking device, and spare batteries
  • beacon and probe
  • zip ties
  • tent
  • spare spark plugs
  • small tool kit
  • sleeping bag
  • dry clothing and extra mitts in a waterproof bag
  • tire plug kit
  • gas line antifreeze
  • extra drive belt
  • satellite phone
  • extra bulbs for taillights and headlights
